I’ve been going through a bit of a love affair with lipstick lately. I never used to be a lipstick girl. I always wore gloss. But ever since I reviewed Maybelline’s Coral Fever I’ve become a bit infatuated and invested in many new shades. One of my favourites lately is an NP Set lipstick called ‘Boston’ (RRP $22.00, 4g) which I picked up *accidentally* while looking for BB Cream. The colour is a lot darker than I’d usually wear – I tend to go for light pinks, nudes and pretty peaches, but the minute my friendly local Napoleon Perdis expert, Ellen, put it on me I was hooked.
Now NP Set don’t have a website yet, so I don’t have anything to compare my experience to. But I’ll give you the best bits. The packaging is cute and fun, the pink palm trees on the NP Set lipsticks always make me think of California, hot summer nights and holidays. The white shiny plastic tube is immediately distinguishable among my other lipsticks, which mostly have black tubes.
My favourite feature of the packaging is a little reservoir of the same colour in the top of the cap, a wonderful idea because just when you think you’re out… guess what? There’s a little more left!
The texture is oh-so-creamy and deliciously moisturising, to the point where I will actually reapply it even when it doesn’t need reapplication. My lips feel so soft and saturated every time I use it and I’ve found that the moisture seems to carry on even after the colour has worn off. It has a very slight lipstick smell, which honestly doesn’t bother me in the slightest. The colour is one I really never would have chosen for myself, but the minute it was on, I was in love. It’s a creamy, rusty, brownish pink. Quite difficult to describe without using their words actually. “Cream Ginger” is the perfect name for the colour.
Above is a swatch of the lipstick, taken with a flash indoors. It represents the colour quite accurately, I found it difficult to capture the depth of this colour without using a flash. The beautiful glossy sheen lasted about an hour for me, and the colour for around another two. It will require reapplication after you eat or drink, but thems the brakes with a gorgeous moisturising lipstick like this one. Hands up if you actually mind? Nope, I didn’t think so. And now for my favourite part… the pout.
Below is the product on my lips, shot with a flash.
There are a whole list of things I love about this lipstick, most of which I’ve already mentioned. But two that I haven’t. 1. It makes me look a lot more tan than I actually am and 2. it makes my teeth look really white!
In short, I absolutely adore this lipstick! Wear it with a tan, a smile and a bounce in your step.
NP Set Lipsticks RRP $22.00/4g are available from David Jones, Target and Napoleon Perdis salon stores.

This color is simply perfection! I love the femininity of the shade and the finish! I just discovered this line at Target but I have not purchased anything yet, now I am intrigued. I myself have just recently become a bit obsessed with lipsticks so I adore informative posts like yours!
Hi Amber, thanks for the great feedback! I was a bit hesitant about NPSet at first too, but the quality is fabulous and the colours are great too. Definitely recommend trying out their lipsticks
Such a pretty colour – works so well with your skin tone!
Also, incase I haven’t said it before, you have such nice lips!

It IS a great colour isn’t it? Never ever would have chosen it for myself. This is why it’s always great to listen to the staff suggestions. Oh, thank you
I’ve been taking good care of my lips lately, lots of moisturising! xx
This colour is divine on your gorgeous lips. Totes kissable!
Thanks Katy! I’m pretty in love with it. Now that you mention it, I haven’t seen any close-up pics of YOUR lips. Why don’t you post a “Today I’m Wearing” lipstick pic? I’d love to see what lipsticks you’re loving at the moment (and have a little bit of a sneaky peek at your gorgeous lips.) xx
I am cah-raaaazy about bright lipsticks. I have a reddish-pink Hourglass Aura sheer lip stain that I wear literally ALL the time because it’s so buildable that for day it seems like a tint but with heaps on at night it looks like lippy! (Semi obsessed)
I also love the creamy texture of the Kit lipsticks, and the colours are so shockingly bright (which I love).
I’m not really a gloss girl, more a lip stain + balm for the moisturising nature. I’m yet to find a lipgloss that doesn’t dry your lips. Any ideas? Also hate the stick-to-your-hair business with glosses haha
xx S
S, I second your love for bright lipsticks AND for lip stains. I just finished my second bottle of Benetint, which I positively ADORE. I’d love to try the Hourglass Aura stain – sounds awesome! The Napoleon lipsticks are amazing for moisturising, haven’t tried a Kit lipstick recently though, that’s going on my list! The only lipglosses I’ve found that don’t dry my lips and AREN’T sticky are: ModelCo and Lanolips. I hate the hair-sticking-to-your-face thing too. Drives me nuts!!! Lanolips is technically a balm, I guess, but some of their new coloured glosses are awesomesauce. I have Rose and Rhubarb and they’re both GORGEOUS. Definitely worth trying. Check out ModelCo too – very moisturising. A little sticky, but nowhere near as bad as most. Let me know how you go beautiful girl! xxx R
I’ve either been doing a glossy yet creamy nude pout with my mix and match BECCA 10th Anniversary palette, or I’ve been doing bright semi matte colours, with a pop of similar toned gloss in the centre of my bottom lip. It’s just enough to give a little shine. I’ve also been highlighting my cupid’s bow with a little illuminating creme. It makes such a difference!
My new favourite is Stay Mauve Estée Lauder Double Wear, with a soupçon of Estée Lauder Pure Color Gloss Wild Lilac Shimmer. It could be old lady but is saved with lots of lashes and a prettily flushed cheek. The Pure Color gloss is lovely solo too.
I haven’t tried the NP Set lipsticks but will check them out the next time I’m buying Boyo socks in Target!
Ohhh I’ve been lusting after nude lips ever since our shoot last week, where I got to see some of the gorgeous new M.A.C. naturals range. Doesn’t highlighting the cupids bow make such a difference? It’s a trick I learnt from makeup artists and it really does make your lips look so much fuller. Ditto about the gloss in the centre of the bottom lip! I haven’t tried any of the Estée Lauder lipsticks, I’ll have to check them out!!
