Sydney Blogger Babes Event

It was a beautiful sunny Sydney afternoon when nearly twenty of Sydney’s blogger babes met up for some high tea and hijinks at The Tea Salon, by The Victoria Room. Heels, pearls, lace and glamour were on the menu, along with finger sandwiches, scones with jam and cream and delicious little sweet treats.

Your next mascara must-have

You’ve probably guessed, by the name of my blog, that I’m a little obsessed with mascara. Ok, a lot obsessed. I’m always on the lookout for the next big thing. A way to make my lashes bigger, bolder and more beautiful than ever before. And guess what? I found it.

Face of Australia’s new mascara Impact Curl, Extreme Volume & Curl Mascara. Developed in association with a panel of Australian Beauty Bloggers, this little baby is ah-may-zing.

The packaging is purple. (Brownie points because it’s my favourite colour.) The unique hourglass shaped rubber brush means it finds every single one of your lashes; lengthens, separates, plumps them up and curls them out.

I use Black instead of Brown/Black because my hair and brows are so dark. I can’t speak highly enough of this mascara. I love having massive “is she wearing falsies?” lashes that hold their curl all day. It’s smudge and sweat proof and the formula includes a bunch of goodies (like conditioners and keratin) that are great for your lash health too.

One of the first days I wore this mascara was on a shoot day. Our makeup artist came up to say hi to me and looked at me strangely. “What?” I asked. “Are you wearing falsies?” she asked me, closely inspecting my eyelashes. “No,” I replied (internally high-fiving myself) “It’s my new mascara.” The response to which was an enthusiastic “wow!” quickly followed by a query about the name of said new mascara.

I have only one criticism: particularly early on, it stays wet for what seems like a very long time. You’ll need to allow extra drying time and don’t look up while your lashes are drying or you’ll get mascara all over your eyelids. About a minute usually does it for me.

Finally, worth noting is its unusual scent. To me, it smells like rockmelon and vodka. My boy thinks it smells like red wine. In short: fruity, and slightly alcoholic. In any case, it doesn’t seem to have any bearing on how well it works and it doesn’t sting if it hits your skin. Just a quirky little fact. It’s probably one of the first things you’ll notice.

In saying that, neither of those things can dull my love for this wonderful creation. If you’re a lash fiend like me, you are going to ADORE this mascara. It’s got the va-va-voom of a much more expensive brand and at only RRP $11.95, it’s cheaper than a week of coffee runs.

Face of Australia Impact Curl, Extreme Volume & Curl Mascara has just hit the shelves. You’ll find it at Priceline, selected pharmacies and Big W. Run, don’t walk, to grab yourself one now. Trust me, I’m obsessed, I know.

p.s. this product was sent to me for editorial consideration by the nice folks at Face of Australia. The fact that I didn’t pay for it with my own cash has had absolutely no bearing on my review. I’d be raving about it either way xx

Oroton Hair Candy

I’m one of those people who is constantly switching between hair up and hair down. Especially on shoot days, when I’m up before dawn and there isn’t really time for a blow-dry. I used to wear a hair elastic on my wrist, but it always looked a bit blah. So when I discovered these little pretties from Oroton, it was like hitting the jackpot. Hair elastics that actually look good on your arm? Genius.

They come in packs of three, and each elastic bears an Oroton logo nameplate and has a different little charm. I chose the “Coral” pack: red, maroon and purple, but they also come in packs of: gold, cloud cream and black; red, orange and brown (“Lantern”) and a pack of all black, each with a different charm. And besides doing their job and looking gorgeous in your hair, they look awesome on your wrist. Consider them arm candy, with additional functionality.

Oroton Fascino Charm Hair Elastics (RRP $45.00 AUD) are available from Oroton stores Australia-wide, or from www.oroton.com. Shop all the Oroton accessories here.

Made any cool discoveries lately? Anything that’s got multiple functionality? Because you know, we all love a multi-tasking product! Let me know. Leave me a note, stop by Facebook or tweet me.

Some goodies all the way from the US of A

This Valentine’s Day I decided to do something different. I indulged myself in a Valentine Beauty Blog Swap, run by Mystique_xo of Beast & Beauty. The premise being: beauty bloggers from all around the world sign up to be paired with someone from another country. Then we’d all shop for one another and send the parcels just before Valentine’s Day. Beauty loot from overseas? So much better than fake roses and heart shaped chocolates!

I was paired with the gorgeous Amber from GlamTrotter. I had so much fun shopping for her! Honestly, I think half the fun was running around going “Oh, I have to get that!” and “Well I really should buy this too.” Amber and I have really similar taste so it was a perfect match. It was a gloomy, rainy Monday afternoon in Sydney when a rather large, exciting-looking parcel landed on my desk.

Barely able to contain my excitement, and receiving inquiring looks from my colleagues (who were keen for me to open it then and there), I managed to restrain myself until I had camera firmly in-hand. The unboxing was a joy in itself. Amber had perfectly packaged each little piece of beauty booty in gorgeous purple paper. It felt like my birthday!

And her selections for me were spot on. Here’s what a lucky little squirrel I am:

Blushes/Highlighters:
Sephora Highlighting Compact Powder in Rose
NARS Blush in Sin
Fusion Beauty Sculpt Diva Contouring & Sculpting Blush in Cherub
Physician’s Formula Happy Blush – Glow & Mood Boosting Blush

Lip Products
NYX Lipstick in Indian Pink (550)
Sephora Lip Attitude in Glamour
EOS Lip Balm in Strawberry Sorbet

Nail Products
Zoya Professional Nail Lacquer in Heidi
Julep Nail Colour in Maya

Eye Products
(now this is where I start squealing. I’ll try to keep it down while you’re reading.)
Faux Lash Tres Chic Lashes in Roxy
Urban Decay Eye Shadow in Sin
Lorac Visual Effection Collection Pack containing: Behind The Scenes Eye Shadow Primer and Curling, Separating & Lengthening Mascara in Jet Black & Midnight Blue
Laura Mercier Long Lash Mascara
NYX 10 Colour Eye Shadow Palette

And now, for the Pièce de Résistance… (please feel free to imagine a choir of archangels singing and a heavenly light shining from above. I am.)

Amber read through all my blogs and discovered my Christmas Wishlist post, where I pined longingly for the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette. And so she bought it for me. *dances happily and crazily from foot to foot* Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh!

I am absolutely overwhelmed with my goodies from the US, and a very heartfelt thanks is in order, firstly to Mystique_xo of Beast & Beauty for coming up with the idea and managing the swap and secondly to Amber of GlamTrotter, who shopped so eagerly and generously for me. I can only hope that she enjoys my selections as much as I’m already enjoying hers.

Reviews on all these products will follow. I’m already completely, hopelessly addicted to at least half of them.

Take a guess at which product I tried first? A blush? A mascara? Which one would you have torn into straight away? Let me know, leave me a note, stop by Facebook or tweet me.
